CVD panel corrals volunteers

Individuals, representatives of businesses and organizations, in fact, anyone interested in Conejo Valley Days is invited to attend an informational meeting Thursday, at 7:30 p.m., at the Holiday Inn in Newbury Park.
Tom Glancy, a Thousand Oaks dentist who is general chairman of this year's event, said the newly organized group running CVD is eager to attract community wide participation.
There's still plenty of time an opportunity to get involved, Glancy said. The general chairman said the committee wants people to see how this all-volunteer community fair is organized and where they can fit in.
The 39th annual Conejo Valley Days celebration is scheduled April 26-30 at Conejo Creek Park South. Preliminary events begin March 19 with the kickoff picnic where candidates for grand marshal are introduced and begin their campaigns.
"Buffalo" Bob Rickards, chairman of that contest, said there are now three candidates and one more is possible. Lance "The Cow Wash Guy" Winslow has joined "Root'n Tooth'n" Arnie Rudman and "Tombstone" Tony Redburn in this year's race. Winslow will represent the Optimists, Rudman is sponsored by Kiwanis, and Redburn is being backed by the Elks.
CVD veteran Judy Magruder will serve as exhibit tent chairwoman this year and Dave Melton will be in charge of concessions. They join Tom Hartin as on-site chairman and Mary Lou Miller who will coordinate off-site (preliminary) events.
Most everyone already involved will be at the meeting, Glancy said, making it a good time to get acquainted.
