Eight area businesses will be recognized for effective waste reduction and recycling efforts at Tuesday's Thousand Oaks City Council meeting.

The presentation is part of the city's annual WasteWatch Awards Program, said Mayor Elois Zeanah.

The city and the Countrywide Recycling Consortium established the program.  The consortium is a group of public and private representatives from throughout Ventura County dedicated to reducing waste.

Applicants were judged in five categories: waste reduction, reuse, recycling, composting and buying recycled.

Gold awards, for exceptional efforts, will go to Amgen, Westlake Village Cleaners, The Body Shop, Lindsay Jackson Designs.

Also, Corlund Electronics, Tri-Valley Environmental Committee, Pep Boys and Mrs. Gooch's Natural Foods Market.

Also, congratulatory letters have been sent to companies who have received special recognition awards.

They are: Matchett Village Properties, George's Photo Shop, Body Focus, K.R. Mobil, Jiffy Lube, Starbucks, and Car Wash Guys and Gals.
