Mobile car wash will add twist to fundraiser

A car wash is a car wash is a car wash.

Schools and other groups have been raising money for years by staging car washes.  And traditionally students have grabbed buckets, hoses and towels to do the work.

But on Saturday, Bedford Open School in Camarillo will put a new high-tech twist on an old idea, school officials said.

School supporters have contracted with "The Car Wash Guys," a mobile car washing service, to do the washing at Bedford's fund-raiser.

"We can put through 200 cars an hour," said Lance Winslow, president of The Car Wash Guys.  "This is accomplished using mobile car washing tanks and sprayers." Bedford students will still participate by hand drying each car.

The Car Wash Guys are donating 100 percent of the proceeds to the Bedford Open School Parent Teacher Student Association to help pay for enrichment activities, field trips, supplies and other items.

The parking lot of Lamppost Pizza at 311 Carmen Drive will be the site of the car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.  Lamppost Pizza has also offered to donate a percentage of their sales during the car wash to Bedford.

Tickets for the car wash are $4 for exterior only and are available from Bedford students or ticket sellers at the event.

"Being an alternative school, Bedford has some very unique programs sponsored by the PTSA steering committee for which funding is necessary," said John Kohlmeier, Bedford PTSA president.
